The
Malachim and Mazikim
"The Malachim are not like us. They aren't human. Their ferocity burns like the heart of the sun. They have faces like flint and no comprehension of what it means to feel hunger or pain or sorrow. They are inhuman, like wild forces of nature. I would hate to meet one in battle."
The Malachim are also called Angels. They are the King's most beloved friends and companions. Beings of immense strength and power who love and serve the King with no other desire of their own.
Although they are greater than humanity and far more devoted to the King, they defer to the Bachirim and feel no jealousy when they regard the King's love for humanity. They fight for the King, going to war only when commanded, and although they can take on different appearances, they are not flesh nor do they desire to possess it.
The Mazikim are those Malachim who left their place close to the King and rebelled. Although fascinated by the beauty of humanity and especially human women, the Mazikim believed themselves far above creatures of the flesh and did not accept the King elevating humanity to become his friends.
After manipulating the first humans into giving up their authority over the world, HaSatan and his Mazikim began to possess human hosts in order to enjoy the pleasures of food, drink and sex and turn the people the King loved away from Him, causing them to seek after their own desires.
Whereas the Malachim have names that reflect beauty or glory, "Kol" (Voice) "Zamar" (music) and "Todah" (Thanks) the Mazikim abandoned these when they left the King. Many have adopted the name of the evil they prefer, such as Shachastan (arrogance) Fear (Eymah) etc. The more powerful and Mazikim give themselves lofty names such as "Ha Sar" (The Prince) "BenAdon" (Son of the Lord) "Bat Tannin" (Daughter of the dragon) or else take only a title "The Lady Dragon."
Now Mazikim find their way into a host through negative thoughts, anger, lust, hatred, fear, pride and greed, and once they take a single thought, they begin to dominate that mind, until the host believes the Mazik's thoughts are their own.
The Mazikim are terrified of the great day of the King, knowing that it will mean their destruction, and so they advance their Kingdom, the Sitra Achra, and attempt to keep as many people away from ever encountering the King as they can.
The Mazikim do not hate the King, they love Him and know that they were fools for rebelling. However, unlike people, they are unable to repent because humility is a gift given only to the human race.
Zamar
Zamar is the first Malach Ish and Rick ever met. Described as being supernaturally tall with black hair and violet eyes (possibly an inspiration for Octavian) with a voice like music.
Zamar, more than any other Malach, understands human emotions. He was once tortured by HaSatan in an attempt to make him turn from the King. He deliberately startled the Assyrian King's horse and caused him to be thrown to his death in anger after the Assyrians took Israel, leaving his friend Michael sorrowful.
Zamar considers Ish his friend as much as it is possible for a Malach to have a friend, and he sometimes finds the King's commands difficult to follow when they oppose his own belief in what is a better course of action.
HaSatan

The king of the Mazikim who led a third of the Malachim to war against the King in order to prove that mankind was unfit to rule the Earth.
After his defeat by the King at the cross, HaSatan hid himself away, eventually choosing the kingdom of Avalon - a world beyond time - as his base to wait until the day the King returns.
As sly as any serpent, HaSatan vowed to never fight the King again, but instead sends his sons and servants to fight on his behalf. His intention is to sire a son whom on whom he can bestow his name, a son who will fight and be defeated in his stead. He both loves and hates humankind, but cannot bear any reminder that men are made in the King's image and crushes all creativity in those he calls his slaves.

HaSar

A vicious Mazik whose reign of terror is described in "The King's Story."
Hasar hates any form of religion, always taking secular hosts when possible. He possessed the Centurion who owned Blodeuwedd - although was cast out at a later date.
Hasar clashed with King Olaf's family line over the taking of the city of Chester, and he never forgot this, gleefully taking control of the Aldrnary family when Edmund Aldrnary called on him to save his daughter's life.
It was Jemma who defeated Hasar, but he was not destroyed. He sought refuge in Yakov Kohlenberger's body and remained there until he took revenge on Jemma. Ish bound him in Yakov's head and Hasar was buried, but was resurrected by Habhema, the Beast, and offered the atheist doctor Jason Baxter as a host.
Jason was married to Ish's adopted sister, Ffion, destroyed her and later tortured Ish under the guise of treating her mental health. Ish, with the help of Ian Danvers and the ghost of Ahasuerus, finally, painfully defeated him for the last time.

Battannin
Her name means "daughter of the dragon" but she has been known by many names, including Morgaine, half-sister to King Arthur and queen of witches.
Battannin saw the King's great army in a vision a thousand years before Jesus walked the Earth and decided then that she would breed weakness into any line that chose to serve the King. From her stone circle in Wales, she helped found a religious cult, The Called and Chosen, who damaged many people, including Rick Heath and Nina Sweetapple. She also owned Ish's father's family, which caused problems when Bronwen Gwilym married William Price, as Darian would not allow Battannin to rule over the family he still protected.
After almost being driven out of her host by Darian, Battannin hid in a baby, Jessica Wilde, until the day she could claim Ish as her own. Battannin was defeated, but was later returned to the world when Austin Corst opened a gateway to Hell. After attempting to take Joan as a host, she later sought to offer her services to HaSatan, but ended her days trapped in a painting.

BenAdon

The Mazik who considered himself in charge of religion. BenAdon disliked HaSar intently as HaSar hated religion but BenAdon knew how easily men could be destroyed through religious beliefs. The master of both small and large organisations, he was also the Mazik responsible for giving Ahasuerus extended life and Ahasuerus served him until BenAdon was cast out by Ish and Darian.
