Nina Sweetapple is struggling. Traumatised by agonising memories of her abusive stepfather and finally unable to cope with the flashbacks, she attempts to end her life and find some sort of peace.

Nathan Redman’s wife Jemma has gone missing and nobody seems to know where she is. His response to this is to get extremely drunk and then go looking for Jemma’s uncle Darian, whom he suspects knows her whereabouts but is playing one of his usual dangerous games where people are just pawns. 

Nina, Jessica and Nathan are just three of the people caught up in the latest battle between the two kingdoms that exist within and beyond this world. This time the stakes are higher than ever, and the price of victory may be even higher still. An old enemy rises from the ashes of defeat determined to wreak as much destruction as he can. A small army stands against him, but each of the army has their own battles to fight before they are even able to recognise the terrible danger that confronts them.
